Should I switch hit?
Something I really dislike about Internet Exporer 7 on my new PC is that, for some stupid reason, all of my favorites are kept with my ISP. In other words I have to log in to my ISP to save favorites. I haven't been able to figure out how to keep them locally.
So, with that, plus many other bothersome things I've decided I might just swich to Firefox.
I know a lot of you use Firefox. What are your likes and dislikes?

I'm no longer trying a new posting paradigm

It's not IE.Flyingcursor wrote:I know a lot of you use Firefox. What are your likes and dislikes?

I don't have too many problems with Firefox, besides sites that insist on using
DirectX or otherwise require you to use IE. For those, I use an addon called
IETab, which creates a tab in firefox that is actually running IE.

I constantly have problems with Firefox. Sometimes it decides it doesn't know what to do with .wmv files. Some days it doesn't know how to display .jpg's. It's a constant fight to get it to work properly from day to day, with lots of going back to their Help sites and resetting options and stuff.
I am not impressed.

Weird. Never seen that. I wonder if folks are setting their MIME types improperly.djm wrote:I constantly have problems with Firefox. Sometimes it decides it doesn't know what to do with .wmv files. I think you should try Firefox and if you don't like it, go back to IE. As a web developer I only developed in Firefox (because there are so many great tools you can install to help with that) then checked it in IE to make sure it was functional. That's the way good web developers are doing it these days.
It seems that IE7 took the good things about Firefox and then made them maddening to use while retaining all the things about IE6 that I found maddening. Screw it.

It blocks adds. That is one great reason to switch. Sometimes it is a little weird, and I don't like it as much as safari, so I use safari normally and firefox on heavily added sites. I would never use IE, but I guess if you don't have a mac safari isn't an option.

Lately Firefox keeps trying to load an upgrade, and then fails with some cryptic error. (I'm at work and don't have the details). It happens every time I launch it, then it fails, and then goes about its merry way.
That's the first oddity I've noticed in a year of using mostly just Firefox. I'd recommend trying it out, for sure.

Actually, that is pretty weird. I wonder if that's some sort of hook your ISPchrisoff wrote:Oh, my goodness! What in the world??Flyingcursor wrote:Something I really dislike about Internet Exporer 7 on my new PC is that, for some stupid reason, all of my favorites are kept with my ISP.

installed in IE (or a customized version of IE like AOL had). Hopefully they
don't do the same crap to Firefox. At any rate, Firefox is easy to try, and can
be uninstalled if you don't like it, so what's there to wait for?

Exactly. You don't have to choose one or the other. There's no rule that says if you use one you have to uninstall the other. Download firefox, give it a try. If you don't like it just keep using IE.fearfaoin wrote:At any rate, Firefox is easy to try, and can

I'm so glad this thread is about browsers. Even if it is April 1.
Firefox is okay, but chokes at times. I have yet to understand why it doesn't have a simple history memory, but erases it after you close things and such. I probably have to set some Preference but other browsers always just did it, leaving a big ol long history to check on when necessary.
