I've always wanted a Grey and I had an oppurtunity to get one whose owner just died a few months ago, but the thing that turns me off from them is the same thing that turns many people toward them: their talkativeness/noisyness! I don't think I could live with a bird that screamed "apples!" as this one did! He had all kinds of weird sayings, including "Oh, I love you!" (The "Oh" was always in there.)

I hate them too! A few of them live wild here. The cold doesn't even kill them. I hear there are whole colonies with hundreds and hundreds of birds living wild in Florida.fearfaoin wrote:Birds love noise. And they love to join in. My parents have a Quaker Parakeet
that likes to whoop it up at night. Yelling at her doesn't help, it just makes her
squawk all the louder. I hate that bird.

- Tell us something.: I've picked up the tinwhistle again after several years, and have recently purchased a Chieftain v5 from Kerry Whistles that I cannot wait to get (why can't we beam stuff yet, come on Captain Kirk, get me my Low D!)

We had an African Grey, a Cockatoo and a Yellow Nape when I was growing up. My dad loved parrots. They were such nice birds, and I loved them, but bird dander drives me up the wall, else I'd probably have one of my own. Maybe again in the future, who knows...
Our African Grey was named Harley. He was probably the most intellegent bird I'd ever seen. my dad worked with him to the point where he could hold simple three or four phrase conversations.
He picked up the strangest things, too.
He learned the entire following sequence:
"Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr <cordless phone ringing>"
"Hello? Just one second....WHIIIIIIITNEEEEEEYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!"
"Hello? Oh hi! Really? Okay."
"Buh-bye"
And he'd repeat it just like that, most of the time. Sometimes there were derivitives of the theme that were quite funny.
Another funny thing he learned was whenever my little daughter would saunter over to his perch or cage, he'd holler "ELENA, STOPIT!!"
Harley passed away about a year ago...He was a funny bird and a good friend to my dad.

Parrots.... big green skwaaaky parrots. Well I guess there are parakeets too but they are big. There are big ones with red on the top of their heads.
Not the cheek.
Practically an infestation of them in South Pasadena for years now. They live here year round and have spread all over the L.A. basin.
