If you wish to fancy them as wild you may.
Poke 'em with a stick. You'll see.

We have Bison, and Elk too, in Wiltshire.

Buffalo

for Howard Good

We learned
didn’t we?
that buffalo
were hunted
nearly to extinction
by Western wantonness.

We have learned
haven’t we?
that they’ve come back
in herds of hundreds of thousands
on prairie ranches.

We’re required by law
aren’t we?
to believe it is so.
This is to salve
a little sore of collective guilt.

They’re not there, really,
are they?
You may drive the Dakotas,
count them up and
reckon their numbers.
But they aren’t there.

I got to ride a buffalo once. It was a toy one I had as a kid.
I'm no longer trying a new posting paradigm

Buffalo chips
Fresh buffalo chips in the yard,
Hot steaming buffalo chips,
Build a fire with the buffalo chips,
Sail the buffalo chips into the wind,
Buffalo chips everywhere.

That's why I prefer to hunt Herefords and Holsteins on public lands,
Those Holsteins don't stand a chance- not much natural camouflage to blend in unless you live in a black and white world..

And eyes as gray as icicle fangs measure stranger
For size, honesty, and intent."
