There was the "Buffalo Ranch" at the corner of Jamboree and MacArthur in Newport beach. It really did have buffalo on the spread, but as in in all things Orange County, there are now Mac Mansions on the site. The only vestige is a bronze scuplture of a buffalo at the corner.

"Buffalo" was the name of my first skye terrier. In his honor, that became my kennel name, so all the skyes of my my line carried that name prefix.

So here's what I think of when someone say's buffalo-

Buffalo- 1973

My mother's boss had a milk farm (milked 1300 head of Holsteins a day) and purchased some bison for some weird reason. The male's head was so big they had to redo the feeders - he couldn't get his head in it. This meant that the calves could then get OUT of the pasture.
I was waiting in the car for my mom (she was in the farm office) with the window open when I "felt" something looking at me. There was a bison calf, head in the window, drooling all down the inside of the car door!

And yes, the bison cow's "moo". The bull made one heck of a racket.

Hail the mighty buffalo,
A noble beast, and true!
You can grind it into burger,
You can put it in your stew.
