- Tell us something.: I used to be a regular then I took up the bassoon. Bassoons don't have a lot of chiff. Not really, I have always been a drummer, and my C&F years were when I was a little tired of the drums. Now I'm back playing drums. I mist the C&F years, though.

Favorite hornpipes
It occurs to me I don't know a lot of hornpipes--most of them the standards: Off to California, Cronin's, Buck on the Mountain. My favorite of the ones I do know is Fairies Hornpipe. I also like Galway Hornpipe.
I want to learn some more--what are your favs?

- Tell us something.: Whistle player, aspiring C#/D accordion and flute player, and aspiring tunesmith. Particularly interested in the music of South Sligo and Newfoundland. Inspired by the music of Peter Horan, Fred Finn, Rufus Guinchard, Emile Benoit, and Liz Carroll.

I was going to say that I'm currently working on the "Fairy Hornpipe", but after a few minutes research, it appears it's actually the "Fairy Queen" hornpipe I'm working on. (This, incidentally, is why taking someone's musical skill as a marker of their overall ITM knowledge is dodgy -- the best fiddler in our group had no name for it, and the second best fiddler had the two tune names mixed up.)
Anyway, the "Fairy Queen" is definitely cool. I like the four-part version of the Galway, "McDermott's", and the four-part "Derry Hornpipe". Ed Reavy wrote some awesome hornpipes, as well -- "Lad O'Beirne's" is great, and I'm currently fascinated by "The Lone Bush".

There is a Cooley's hornpipe that I learned off a Mary Bergin CD... lots of fun to play.

Hi Michael
Yep, it is your set. I saw it on one of your flute posts and thought nothing of it, thinking it was a bit strange putting a slow reel with a hornpipe.
Then after learning 'Bobby Casey's' I went back and listened to your post.Nice playing
Putting them together really works.
cheers

I really like An Comhra Donn.
I first heard it on the Chieftains 1, and now I can't stop playing it

Whistle Clips (Old, I really need to update these)
One of my faves is The Cuckoo's Nest, which I actually ran across by accident trying to track down a different tune with the same name.
