Purchasing whistles online

Post by BlackFire_ »

I've been looking to buy some whistles, but don't know any reliable decent stores online that sell them, besides Harp and Dragon. My local stores seem to not know anything about tin whistles.

Any help? :D

I'll add these as well.

http://www.elderly.com/

and

http://www.songsea.com/

I have also purchased from Harp and Dragon but prefer to do that in person when they are at a local festival.

I am not sure what you may be looking for but I would suggest buying directly from the maker any time you can. When you do that you start a relationship that could last a long time and you won't generally get better service.

If you don't mind ordering from overseas I can recommend http://www.bigwhistle.co.uk/
in Great Britain. Phil Brown is nice to deal with and is a professional whistle player himself, and very good at it too.
I buy all my cheap whistles from Bigwhistle, and I'm very satisfied.
Very reliable and very decent,-you will not regret ordering from Bigwhistle Music.

I also recommend Bigwhistle. Just bought 'Cillian O'Brian New Improved High D Brass Whistle' from them.

Contact Patrick "Doc" Jones at theirishflutestore.com - he's got reasonable prices, great selection, great ethics, and is just an all around terriffic person. Please buy from him. I guarantee you'll be glad you did!

Direct from Alba

Post by Inthewind »

I ordered direct from Alba a month ago and haven't been able to get them to answer an email since. They did finally charge my card a couple of weeks ago, so I have hope that something's happening.

I've had good experiences at www.thewhistleshop.com and www.irishflutestore.com has a great selection.

Thanks for the kind words Todd but you forgot "dashingly handsome" :D

There's no "the" by the way, it's just https://www.irishflutestore.com/

I've purchased from http://thewhistleshop.com/ and had excellent service. Mitch at http://ozwhistles.com/ is also a lovely guy as is Blaine at http://whistleanddrum.com/

Don't have any experience with the others.

Several makers also sell directly online.

If anyone's keeping score, count this as my CP for the month. :)

Depending on where you live, you may want to consider buying direct if you are interested in more than mass produced whistles. Many whistle makers have web sites and are willing to answer questions by email or phone.

If you are new to whistling, you should know that you can order replacement heads for stock whistles as well as "tweaked" versions that bring out the best in off-the-shelf whistles.
