The pythons must be on the move http://news.smh.com.au/giant-python-swa ... -1v80.html
This was in the Sydney Morning Hearld (Australia) today.
Either that, or the reporter is a C&F lurker

Oh, come on. It's not like it was a real dog. It was a terrier chihuahua mix. Not much more than an appetizer.Ctrl Alt Del wrote:The pythons must be on the move http://news.smh.com.au/giant-python-swa ... -1v80.html

What do you mean, sex? We are talking about invasive species, what's good to eat, and the wildlife in San Francisco. Do stay on topic.Ronbo wrote:Hmm, there is a great deal of aggression mixed in with sex. A snarling beaver might promise some interesting interaction.ElPollo wrote:I prefer beavers.
Nothing like petting a beaver. Unless it's a snarling one.

Well, damn, I thought I was ON topic for once. Chrisoff gets to post gratuitous pussy pics, and I get nailed for talking about a beaver. It just ain't fair.Denny wrote:you're not from San Francisco, eh!Bloomfield wrote:What do you mean, sex? We are talking about invasive species, what's good to eat, and the wildlife in San Francisco. I love C&F...no other board I frequent has brought up this stunningly stupid article.
I read this in the KC Star this morning, and I was simply blown away by how pointless this article was. California, more than any state I know (except possibly Hawaii), is highly aware of the dangers of invasive species. Except for a few states to the north, could SF be any further from the current breeding population of wild pythons in the US? Would anyone have printed this if you substitute Juneau for SF? Looking at the USGS maps on this issue (from which our fine author dug up this story), SF is at the far northern edge of where pythons could theoretically spread.
I do think the population of pythons that is now self sustaining in Florida is a significant problem, but had this article been written to warn Atlanta or some Mississippi gulf town that pythons could be heading their way it would have made a lot more sense.
And Gonzo...I'm with you all the way, but the USGS says we're too far north.

It ate their guinea pig, killed and tried to eat their cat, and had actually stalked the dog for several days. They had seen it in the dog's bed.Mr Douglas said he had made several calls to the Peric house to remove snakes which hunted their pets.
Anyone else find this alarming?
Why are there no photographs, by the way? I think a shot of the dog's back legs and tail sticking out would be newsworthy.
