That would be an option!
I guess I should've said I'm looking for a second-hand flute that I could buy pretty immediately. Thanks

They're great flutes. I have a six key.
I think it's wonderful. So I guess they're not
so easy to find. I got mine used from
Doc Jones. You might ask him to let you
know if he ever gets another.

I'd call Eamonn yourself, and tell him you're after one.

I got a 4 key from Eamonn in around 11 months. You'd not go far wrong with that.

Anyone know what style a Cotter flute is, is it a Pratten, Rudall or a bit of a hybrid ?

I find his flutes easy to play so thats the main thing, but I was wondering what design they are.

Generally I find Prattens harder to play.

I think they're all Prattens. Mine is a Pratten anyhow,
no question.

Thx Jim,

I have a hamilton flute which I think is a pratten and the Cotters I've tried felt a bit different. This is waht prompted my question

The Hammy is heavym with very big finger holes and quite a spread on the bottom holes (ED). I didn't fine this one the Cotter.

Maybe the Hammy flute just have exceptionally large finger holes. I also found the cotter to be a lighter flute. I don't think I have come across a flute as heavy as the hamilton.

cheers,
Pat

I share these impressions.
My Cotter, while not quite as much of a 'handful'
as the Hammy, has a largish left hand stretch,
biggish holes, a single center section,
and the sort of big round sound one identifies
with Pratten-style flutes.

The Olwell Pratten has somewhat smaller holes
and they're a bit closer together. I see
the Cotter as between the Olwell and the Hammy--
stretch and hole-size wise. The Cotter is
a light flute.

Yes, the Cotter plays beautifully.

Cotters are light indeed.

I found the Cotter a bit more rudallish, sound-wise. At least compared to the Hamiltons I tried and my own Aebi Pratten. The one I tried had also smaller finger holes than Hammys or my Aebi.
