I have a whistle in every room my wife allows me to play whistle in (i.e. - the basement).

I love the Dixon trad myself. The tuning is wonderful, and it blends well when playing with others.

I'll have to take a few pics at our next session...but that won't happen until the 26th.

SW Florida Session at Lally's Irish Pub

Post by Carey »

Fun thread. More pics!

Here's a shot from last August when our session was playing at Lally's, a new pub in Cape Coral, FL. We've since been voted off the island by the bar flies who want to play the jukebox while they play pool and watch football. The pub missed the chance to draw the local Irish when they couldn't keep a regular cook and the food suffered.

Anyway, that's Ian the fiddler's shoulder, Dave on mandolin, me playing my bodhran (which is what I do when I don't know the tune - nobody throws things at me), Jeff on bozuki and Hugh the piper messing with one of his electronic practice gizmos.

Hugh brought his pipes in one time and I couldn't even hear my bodhran and I was whacking it as hard as I could. You're right, they are not U-pipes.

Only have the same old one handy (and on-line). Still the favourite weekly in the kitchen.

Celtic Ray in Port Charlotte, FL

Post by Carey »

Had our first session at the Celtic Ray, a pub about 40 minutes north of me in Punta Gorda, FL today. It's worth the drive. Great management, great people, and of course great (free) beer for the players.

Hmm..that picture doesn't want to appear which is strange, the other one worked fine. You can see it here:

Hey, Breqwas, I do envy you! When I looked at that first picture I thought, "Gee, that sure looks like Winifred Horan in the corner there on fiddle." Then I looked at the second picture. :D

Are pictures that move welcome here too?

You probably will need to turn up your monitor brightness becasue the pub was sorta dim last night.

Nice session. The fiddler in the second picture has a strong resemblance to Winifred Horan. :D Maybe the angle has something to do with it.

Tell us something.: You just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free
