Finding Tutorial Tunes Online

Post by srt19170 »

(Cross-posted at the Session and in the whistle forum.)

I've created a custom Google search engine for finding tutorial tunes online, e.g., when you want to learn "Geese in the Bog" and you need an MP3 of someone playing the tune to listen to and learn from. You can find the search engine at:

http://www.google.com/coop/cse?cx=00045 ... r71mpimhd0

You just type in the name of the tune and hit return. Currently I'm searching this list of sites:

http://worldfiddlemusic.co.uk/mightycraiconline/
http://irishwindow.com/wst_page7.html
http://tuneaweek.backstagerogers.com/
http://www.thewhistleshop.com/slow/session.htm
http://www.slowplayers.org/SCTLS/playlist.html
http://www.gregdahms.ca/Tunes/
http://www.tinwhistletunes.com/clipssnip/newspage.htm
http://www.murphyroche.com/Resources/Sl ... _Tunes.htm
http://www.siamsa.org/sessions/sessions.htm
http://faculty.ivytech.edu/~bpfingst/ss/ss.html
http://whistlethis.com/
http://www.rileyirishmusic.com/modules/ ... /music.php
http://comhaltas.ie/blog/post/foinn_seisiun_online/
http://tradlessons.com/
http://www.glencottagemusic.com/catalogue.html
http://irishflute.podbean.com/
http://www.thegrotonsession.com/tunes.html
http://dougsflutes.googlepages.com/tune ... ndmp3audio
http://www.socalpipers.com/tunes.html
http://www.tradlessons.com/
http://comhaltas.ie/music/detail/
http://www.flutesite.com/tune_tutor.htm

I've tried to select sites that would be most useful for finding a learning version of a tune. If anyone knows of other tutorial tune sources that I could include, please let me know. (Please, no comments on the quality of the playing at any of the sites, I think everyone understands that you take pot-luck on the web.)

I hope you'll find this useful.

Whoops, I'll have to clean that up (although I don't think it actually affects the search). I appreciate the tunes that both of you have put up, I should be the one saying thanks!

Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

Aha! Looks like a good resource. Preferring to learn by ear, myself, I'll be checking it out, no doubt.

Good resource. Thanks. I'm sure you'll refine it. The problem with many tunes is that they are spelled a thousand different ways and have other names. e.g. Farrell O'Gara.

thesession.org is my primary source for tune hunting. iTunes is also good.
