I tried to play my hammer once... it only had one tone and it was flat but was very loud. No forgiveness for mistakes either.

I saw somebody once who'd fitted a hammer with fiddle strings and a pick-up. It sounded not bad.

Folks have made guitars, banjos and fiddles out of cigar boxes.

Historically, music has been one art in which even very poor people could participate, and they have come up with some really marvelous home-made instruments, like the willow-bark whistles that were discussed a few months back.

Hi James,

I saw a feature on a British sailor who made guitars, banjo's and violins from match sticks. He played them and they were very good. He must have had some time on his hands. Best, Cyril.

You don't have a whistle?? Gee, Keith, you've been stringing us along.

For hammers, try the Peen & Gavel board.

If you also had a sickle, you'd probably be run out of town.
