About signature lines

Post by Dale »

I've not really been interested in policing what people put in their signature lines--and am still not. However, please consider a couple of courtesies.

Some people have businesses that mention in the sig lines. The name of the biz, a link to it--that's perfectly ok. But, don't turn it into a full-blown commercial post.

Some people use their sig lines to provide a political message of the kind that would normally be confined to the Political/Controversial forum. I've done this myself. But, again, please don't overuse and abuse that by making the kind of statement that might frustrate someone who feels unable to respond or counter.

This is not a new policy. I'm just asking....

Thanks,

Dale

but i just made this post in the rubber room in the ang atheist thread:

i really can't keep track of who believes what anymore. in the interest of helping me out, could we possibly somehow below our avatars have small symbols that help identify our beliefs, like "gun nut," "ill-informed republican," "foreigner-english as a second or lesser language" "naive psuedo-intellectual" "messed up former believer" "totally nice all around person" and "ambigous sexuality." i think this would help bring more effective communication. i'd be willing to moderate this.

You mean I'm gonna have to drop my whole Emmylou thing? :waah: Guess I'll have to pick someone less controversial like Black Sabbath or the Butthole Surfers.

How about a numerical, or -- better yet, alphanumerical -- code? Lots of possibilities there.

SEX -- 3-digit prefix for sexuality
SEX100 -- male
SEX100.0 -- male, preference unstated
SEX100.1 -- male, prefers females
SEX100.2 -- male, prefers males
SEX100.20 -- male, prefers males, still in closet
SEX100.21 -- male, prefers males, out of closet
SEX100.3 -- male, indiscriminate
SEX100.9 -- male, totally conflicted

pics/symbols would be easier especially for the newbies who are having enough trouble trying to read whistle tabulature and wondering why their whistle only squawks when they play it.

SEX -- 3-digit prefix for sexuality
SEX100 -- male
SEX100.0 -- male, preference unstated
SEX100.1 -- male, prefers females
SEX100.2 -- male, prefers males
SEX100.20 -- male, prefers males, still in closet
SEX100.21 -- male, prefers males, out of closet
SEX100.3 -- male, indiscriminate
SEX100.9 -- male, totally conflicted

you missed a couple
SEX100.4 -- male, totally creepy
SEX100.5 -- male, prefers lesbians
SEX100.6 -- male, prefers his mom
SEX100.7 -- male, should be receive death penalty

see, too complicated but nice thought.

I have a difficult time thinking of anything really cute or meaningful to put in my signature line anyway.

On the contrary, your signature is as meaningful as any here. Just shorter.

I've changed my signature line according to the suggestions by Mute.

So now everyone should be able to tell at a glance where I stand :D

It was inspired by me. I am truly honoured! :D

Now. Let's see how long it lasts.

I found mine in the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations. It's by some chap called Sir Francis Doyle and it accurately sums up what I'm like (or would like to be like) at our pub sessions. :)
"Last night, among his fellow roughs,
He jested, quaff'd and swore."

They cut me down and I leapt up high
I am the life that'll never, never die.
I'll live in you if you'll live in me -
I am the lord of the dance, said he!
