Oh come on DJM, does everything have to be turned in a vulgar (not in the sense of the Latin language) statement?djm wrote:Is that the one about the guy who falls in love with a blow-up doll?

I have heard about the movie, Congratulations, would you highly recommend it? I generally greatly appreciate anything Cate Blanchett does.
Why build character when you already are one?

The doll movie was one of the recent movie recommendations on this forum. You would know that if you were around here longer.TCB wrote:does everything have to be turned in a vulgar (not in the sense of the Latin language) statement?
"I'm not there" is supposed to be about different aspects of Bob Dylan's life, which is all the explanation I need.

I'd rather be atop the foothills than beneath them.

- Tell us something.: I've picked up the tinwhistle again after several years, and have recently purchased a Chieftain v5 from Kerry Whistles that I cannot wait to get (why can't we beam stuff yet, come on Captain Kirk, get me my Low D!)

You should see the blowup doll after the wildcat in the distance gets done with it.Denny wrote:There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke.

Ok, first of all: Wow.
Second: Yes, I highly recommend the movie. I was a little skeptical going into it, but they pull it off and it's glorious. Each different "Bob Dylan" represents him at different stages of his life, some of which is for reals, some of which is entirely made up, and some of which is only sort of made up. There's a little black kid that plays him running away from home and starting to play publicly, there's Christian Bale who plays early folk Dylan under the name Jim Rollins (or something), there's Cate Blanchett who plays electric Dylan under the name John/Jack Quinn, there's Richard Gere who plays an old Dylan named Mr. B who is a recluse in the hills of Minnesota, and then Christian Bale comes back to play Dylan/Rollins after he converts to Christianity. Oh, and Heath Ledger plays an actor who played Rollins/Dylan in a movie, and which is also supposed to be Bob Dylan. And Heath Ledger's penis makes an appearance. The music in the movie is great, a good mix of covers and real Dylan, and they saved Like A Rolling Stone for the credits (and kudos to them for knowing that's a song best saved for the credits).
All together, it's a supremely reverent movie that takes liberties with Dylan's life in the same way he took liberties with it. And Cate Blanchett must have watched hundreds of hours of Dylan footage, because she had him down. I mean, dead on. Lots of fun, makes you think. Good stuff.
