Christmas tune recommendations?

Post by rgouette »

I can't believe I'm failing at a boolean search of the Uilleann forum to fine a thread dealing with Christmas tunes...

I'm wondering are there any beginner/intermediate level tunes you folks know of that can be played on a set of the little beasties?

Cheers!
Rich

ps I have a half set

Eric Rigler recorded a few CDs of Christmas music on the uilleann pipes. Do a search in Amazon.com

Try,
"I Saw Three Ships". It may be on JC's tune finder:

How about "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"?
or
"We Three Kings"?

Both are easy to play and sound good on the pipes.

thanks lads.

I decided to not play the pipes today.
The reed is giving fits, and I'm not gonna risk embarrassing and the craft myself in front of a office party.

Tell us something.: I am interested in the uilleann pipes and their typical -and broader- use. I have been composing and arranging for the instrument lately. I enjoy unusual harmonic combinations on the pipes. I use the pipes to play music of other cultures.

Same old story: your reed shuts down, keeping you from playing at the office Christmas party, and the next thing you know you are having way too much punch, telling people off and photocopying your butt.

I mean...don't you go ahead and do that :D

How about "The Holly She Bears a Berry" from the Chieftain's X-mas special "Bells of Dublin" :)
Also, many other good tunes to choose from on that CD.

If you are in the US you can listen to the complete track here:

Cheers!
