Just seeing the trailers have made me reluctant to view this. I think I can contain myself till it comes out on DVD.

Give your money to Seamus Heaney instead of Hollywood and get his translation.

Hell, get the bilingual version - it's better than out-takes and trailers on the DVD extras.

If you want 3D animation, just get someone to throw the book across the room every five pages.

Got them both. Nothing beats reading it in the original Old English. Not even Heaney. This film.... feh. The trailers do not inspire. I'll wager it's as much like the poem as "O Brother Where art thou" is like the Odyssey.

I didn't care for the Heaney translation. I thought the Raffel was much better.

I liked it. Great 3D effects. Excellent modeling and texturing.
As a 3D type artistic kind of person those are the things I look for.

I can't imagine it without 3D though.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

And beyond.

Besides, even the best 3D animation is creepy-looking.

I take it the beheading of Grendel's mother will not be the part of the film you are waiting for.

Okay, Beowulf awesome yet tragic character, based on the trailers, I don't know if I can truly judge it. So far all the trailers got me excited about is the fact Ray Winstone is the voice of Beowulf, Angelina Jolie that scares me so her as Grendel's mother is great I guess. But from what the trailers showed, it seemed as if a lot of the movie is incorrect in the description in the epic tale. But I will be the judge of it when I see it.

By the way, I saw a castle where is the mead hall?

Also Beowulf, what instrument do you personally associate him with.

Myself, I associate him with the pipes.
Though not from the same region or time period still, I think if he could be the pipes are a good association.

With most movie adaptations of books, I think it's best to judge them on their own merits, or lack thereof. Which is "better" is sort of irrelevant-- did you enjoy both for what they were?
I am no Beowulf fan, but I'll be dollars to donuts that this movie is not a strict retelling of the story. Still, it looks pretty entertaining in it's own right as a spectacle and I intend to watch it with that in mind (plus, I love 3-D movies :D )

It's not a book it's an epic poem from a manuscript, written around the year 1000 A.D. or C.E. which ever you perfer.
