I don't see how this this is "bashing" anything. The article simply reports the fact that the visit did indeed snarl traffic and create logistical problems for tired evacuees, including friends of ours. Any presidential visit would have done the same. The San Diego Union Tribune is a true blue Republican newspaper. There have been politicians and reporters of all stripes crawling around here this past week, capitalizing on the disaster.

I only just moved here to San Diego. It was scary, but I'm proud of how San Diego handled it, and think it can only go up from here.

Glad you folks are OK. Scary stuff, and many lost a lot.

Looks like the danger has passed for me as well - although it never seemed as perilous as it did for eskin and mtguru

Both MTGuru and I had much more harrowing experiences in the 2003 fire, with active fire in our neighborhoods and burning embers flying about. Needless to say, we were a bit jumpy this time...

I wish my everyday life, disasters included, had a soundtrack to accompany it. Everything would be more ... dramatic. Where can I get one of those soundtrack thingies to follow me around?

Anyone know the source? It sounds very cinematic, and somewhat familiar.

Tell us something.: Longtime member of Chiff and Fipple. I own/have owned more whistles than a person should, I think. But I’m not complaining.

The music is from Gustav Holst's "The Planets" and it's the first movement called "Mars, the bringer of war."

Tell us something.: "Tell us something" hits me a bit like someone asking me to tell a joke. I can always think of a hundred of them until someone asks me for one. You know how it is. Right now, I can't think of "something" to tell you. But I have to use at least 100 characters to inform you of that.

Might I recommend "Danse Infernale" from Stravinsky's Firebird Suite. :)

I'm really glad you're all OK.

I tried Danse Infernale, also Hall of the Mountain King, neither was as effective as Holst. Oh, and the Ren and Stimpy theme didn't work very well either...

You'd want to be pretty well-hung before you take on this guy, boat-lover.

Owen, wasn't your last boat, the Naomi J., lost in some fairly dramatic way?
