am i the only one who gets confused over these two reels?

Post by mariajef »

i can play them separately fine, but when i try to play one after the other, i go crazy. they are:

the old bush
rakish paddy

is it me, or do others have problems with keeping these tunes separate in the head (really the 'b' parts)

Don't know about those two specifically (they're in my session repertory "play'em if someone else starts 'em but don't really know them otherwise" category!), but the more tunes you acquire, the worse that sort of thing gets - more to mix up. After all, the vocabulary is somewhat limited. The amazing things are: 1) the sheer variety and interest that can be generated from so small a set of variables (because the permutations are almost endless); and 2) the capacity of human memory to remember and recognise melody and to spot minute differences.
I respect people's privilege to hold their beliefs, whatever those may be (within reason), but respect the beliefs themselves? You gotta be kidding!

Whatever you do, don't start learning Rakish Paddy and Bank of Ireland together. ;)
