Seminal albums
I don´t know if this has deen discussed before, but what is the recording that , to you, is Irish music at it´s best. I find myself mainly listening to players of instruments that I play, solo recordings if possible (to get the feel of the nuances) and all the modern bands, like Lúnasa, Gráda, Flook and the rest (for kicks). Not living in Ireland I cannot really appreciate regional differences and I have but a broad view of what Irish music is about, but what I'm looking for are albums that capture the essence of The Music. For me the choice is very clear: Tony MacMahon agus Noel Hill, I Gnoc na Graí. Rocking box and concertina and dancing (which after all is the point of the music that we play). Please give me pointers to CDs/albums I may have missed.

Hej!
Advice on ITM by swede to another swede, thats a bit like a blind leading the blind
Here are some CD's that I always liked, but have come to appreciate even more for the traditional essence or feel.
Beginish
Mick Mulcahy, CD same name
Mulcahy Family
Kitty Hayes & Peter Laban, They'll be good yet
Mick O'Brien and Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh, Kitty lie over
The first 4 should be right up your alley, according to your avatar
Steampacket also had this great tip on the swe piping forum:
The Raineys
Cheers!

I forgot about the Noel Hill/Tony Linnane one - what a cracker. I was listening to it on the plane back from Cyprus on Saturday whilst everyone else was watching a daft in-flight movie! Talking of Tommy Peoples, there's The Quiet Glen, which is a must-have for all ITM-lovers! I also love the Christy Moore one, The Iron Behind the Velvet, which not only has yer man singing some cracking good songs but also has some peerless sets of tunes featuring many of the luminaries of the time, including most wonderfully the aforementioned Hill and Linnane.

And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')
