Good luck, Berti! I hope the surgery goes well.

As for advice for playing by ear, I can't help you. I'm addicted to sheet music. :D

Tell us something.: "Tell us something" hits me a bit like someone asking me to tell a joke. I can always think of a hundred of them until someone asks me for one. You know how it is. Right now, I can't think of "something" to tell you. But I have to use at least 100 characters to inform you of that.

Hi Berti!

I hope the operation goes well. I am a music therapist and I work at a Deaf/oral school with children. Most of them have cochlear implants and several of the classroom assistants are adults who are deaf or hard of hearing. A couple of them (the adults) just got their implants within the past year and it was amazing to see their progress. I have read various information regarding the perception of pitch and melody through the CIs and would love for you to share your experience with that once all has healed and it is "turned on".

Congratulations and best wishes for a speedy recovery!!

I am back home again, the surgery is over (this tuesday) and has been a success so far that all the electrodes have been placed well into the cochlea.
Feeling fine, only a bit of afterkicks from the drugging ;)
October 22th the stitches will be removed and then I will get a date for when the "turning on" will be :)
If all goes well, beginning of november.
Keep your fingers crossed for me please!!

warmest greetings

Congratulations, Berti. I hope everything turns out well for you. But there is something about your phrase "turning on" that reminds me of someone else .....

That is a wonderful thing to hear... made my otherwise crappy day, for sure!

Here's hoping for excellent results all the way through!!

if it's not too late, i recommend not letting all your family members in on the good news. that way, if they start to get on your nerves at thanksgiving dinner, you can just ignore them.

wishing you the best.

Today the stitches were taken out and I have got the MAGICAL DATE!!!
November 15th 10 am my bionic ear will be switched on :)
Those are going to be the LONGEST few weeks in my LIFE!

Fun detail: it turned out that my ear doc is a guitar player and ALL the audiologists of the team are ALL playing in a band!
So I don't have to worry about people not understanding about what music can mean for you, and about the right programming for music.
Is that cool, huh??? :)

Happy greetings
berti
