If Grease was a musical about 50's or 60's "greasers" why did the theme song sound so "disco"?

Noah is IN the musical "Grease" this coming November.

I'm already sick of the music.

I would just like to clarify that grease is a word, not the word.

If memory servers, I believe bird is the word.

As in:

Hey nonny ding dong, aling aling alay

Ok, well...first things first.
Nonny
\Non"ny\, n. A silly fellow; a ninny.

(Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary)
It is clear, in the example cited by djm, that a simpleton is being unkindly taunted.

Let's move on. Here is a quote which, if taken out of context, would suggest an accident with a hammer:
Bom, bom bom bom, bom bom, bom bom bom.
Bom bom, bom bom bom.
A dang, a dang dang dang
A ding a dong ding.

Perhaps that is, in fact, what happened after the nonny was left alone, without a dream in his heart or a love of his own.

I confess to having uttered stronger oaths on occasion of carpentry mishaps, but it could be that the nonny isn't familiar with more colorful language, being a nonny. No wonder he's always being taunted.
Still, it's not very nice, is it?

Then sigh not so, but let them go,
And be you blithe and bonny,
Converting all your sounds of woe
Into hey nonny, nonny.

I played sax for a community theater production of Grease when I was in high school. It was fun. But I mostly goofed off with the other musicians.

You know what I think? I think you all are making much ado about nothing, that's what I think. :P

I was actually wondering how long it would take you lot to invoke the sacred words of Mr Shakespeare ;)

Well, the thing is ....

Sometimes we walk hand in hand by the sea
And we breathe in the cool salty air,
You turn to me with a kiss in your eyes
And my heart feels a thrill beyond compare
Then your lips cling to mine, it's wonderful, wonderful
