About us:
We live in Osaka and Kyoto area which are located in west of Japan.
We are both in our twenties, and have been playing Irish
music for about 4-6 years.
hatao is a professional player and studied with Eamonn Cotter,
Paul McGrattan,Harry Bladrey in the summer schools in Ireland.
Akio is a semi-professional and also have been to Ireland.

hatao's web site:
http://www.irishflute.info/

About the recording:
This project is a non-profit and just for our fun.
As a traditional session, we played with drinking beer and
recorded without any rehersal and over dubbing.
We used shure 58 and 57 microphones, and added reverb a bit.

About the tunes.
We selected our favourite repertory from Sligo and Roscommon area
and played in the way of what we think "Sligo and Roscommon style".
About the tune type,we selected not only reels and jigs, also recorded
hornpipe, fling, slide, march, polka, barndance as well because we love them!
We should have record slow air too !!

Great stuff here. Lovely playing with a great spirit running throughout. The spirit and the level of accomplishment is reminiscent of
the great concertina album made by Bernard O'Sullivan & Tommy McMahon, "Clare Concertinas," made twenty-five (?) years ago.
A more obvious comparison is "Doubled Barreled," a recent CD by John Skelton and Keiran O'Hare. Hatao's album strikes me as more spontaneous, recorded warts and all, which I find more appealing.
This is music played by two friends, with great rhythm and intensity, for the sake of the tunes rather than to show off flashy technique or to play past the comfort level.
I'd buy the CD if there was one - to have it offered here, for free, gives me hope.
Thank you Hatao, thanks a million.

Cool.

I listened to the reels. Very nice.

What is a "lzh" file? I downloaded it, but am not sure how to expand it.

The lzh file is zipped mp3s.
You need a software to unzip it, but I don't exactry know
how to find the software in English.
Please check google as "unzip" to find it.

Mine flute is cocus too!

Thank you very much for your comment.
I am so glad that you like our music.

I like John Skelton and Kieran O'Hare 's "double barrel"
but we recorded without any rehersal so our music is
more cluttered. But I love the relaxed session so much.

Once in a while, these forums offer up a real treasure, and that's what keeps me coming back. We've struck gold in this thread!

Thanks for sharing this!

Well played lads.

I looked at your website but most of your text comes up as boxes. Is it in Japanise?

I haven't downloaded the full 69min recording of all the tunes yet but I do plan to.

You might want to change the title of this thread for people like me who don't look at all threads but use the title to judge if it sounds like something worth looking at. I suggest the title should indicate that your samples are here. They are a bit of a hidden gem with the present title!

Do you play an other instruments or types of music?

Thank you for all your comments.

gorjuswrex,
Yes, Hatao's website is in Japanese. :(
He plays many types of music on his wooden flute, such as baroque music.
I played shakuhachi for few years before taking up flute.
Thanks.

Hatao and Akio,

ON YA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)

Great stuff and great fun! Congratulations, and thank you so much!

P.S. to fellow Chiffers: I found a neat little freeware program called Zipeg that opened the .lzh archive just fine at http://www.zipeg.com/mac.index.html

There's also a link there for a Windows version.

Thanks again - I'm loving you guys!

I downloaded this last night and would just like to express my gratitude and admiration, what wonderful spirit and skill; certainly something for me to aspire too.
