I can't be the only one who finds mimes intensely annoying.
The best comment about mimes ever written was conatained in this brilliant pre-simpsons Matt Groening effort.

And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

Oh no, I agree with you ... art can be, and is sometimes most beautiful, when it is a form of worship.Cranberry wrote:Quakers worship in silence. I've always thought silent artists are particularly Quaker in that regard, as art can be (and so often is) a form of worship.
Perhaps Doug is the only person who even understands what I just wrote.

I had a chance to spend most of a day with him, about eight years ago. He was intense in his focus, very precise about every part of his performance. He did a performance in our small town, and I was the driver and general aide in setting up.
He did a couple of pieces that really left me impressed, even now. The comic ones didn't have that lasting effect on me. But a couple of the dramatic ones did.
He was one of the greats.

Most clowns and mimes scare me. I think there is something wrong with most people that put on that much makeup to get attention. I find most mimes creepy wanabes; he is the true original.
I forget the comic’s name, but he said that he played a blank tape at full volume. The mime next door came over and complained.
