Ooh, one of our old cats did that. Utterly mad it was and it had another cat (and a dog) to play with as well. It was female.

With regards to him already sleeping on my leg, he's actually really clingy. Follows me everywhere, waits outside the bathroom for me and predictably he slept beside me on the bed (that is when he eventually decided it was time to sleep). He's currently sitting curled up beside me on the sofa.

I'm going to go out for a bit later on to try and get him used to being on his own, otherwise he's going to have problems on Monday.

And Annie, yes I do feel better :D

He's going to have a hard time convincing people he's a tough guy if those pictures get around  . I'm glad to see he doesn't have a whole lot of trouble relaxing! Yeah, it will be nice for you to come and go so that he sees you will come back. I'm sure he'll sleep a lot when you are gone and then keep you up all night playing---just kidding!

Awwwwww. Cute cat, Chris!

(I'm a sucker for pictures of them sleeping with one paw over their eyes.)

He's just spent most of the night using my flat as a high speed assault course. That was pretty funny. Think I maybe overdid the catnip I was spraying on things...

Dunno, I've never had an English cat. All mine have been Scottish.

By the way if anyone knows of a good way to get him to stay off the kitchen worktops I'd like to hear it.

Today is his first day alone in the flat while I'm at work, wonder how much of it will still be in one piece when I get home...

Cats aren't stupid. A good, loud roar of, "Get the f*ck out of it," the instant they jump up on the kitchen counters quickly gets the message through.

Nothing can be done about what he'll get up to while you're out of the house.

Yes, that's the problem. There's little point getting him to stop doing something only when I'm there. He's quickly cottoned on that if he's on the worktop and I stand up he should be getting off the worktop.

Guess I could try the old squirt him with a water pistol as soon as he jumps up thing.

It's ever so effective! ... but you have to be devious, and try not to let him associate the squirt with you, but with the act of jumping up on the counter. Then, even when you are out, he will probably avoid them.

We just got an new one as well! That puts us back up to 6!! Yikes... only one in the house, though.... at least for now. She's a gorgeous little steel grey long hair with greengold eyes... and the remnants of a flea infestation!! Glad she's old enough for Frontline... she's scratching less already. Tiny little voice... very sweet... i'm waiting to see what she becomes when she's comfortable enough to get bored though... :o
