CP Chord Book with over 200 Celtic and Old Time tunes...

Post by anniemcu »

Due to a couple of threads lately asking for ways to get the chords to many tunes, I decided it was time to remind everyone that the NEMOFOTMAD Chord Book, "An Amazingly Accessible Annotated Accompaniment Archive!" is still available.

I produce this book from start to finish, all by my little ol' lonesome (oh, alright, I do let the local printer cut the pages for me, but I do everything else!), and will gladly provide you with one for the paltry fee of $24.95 including shipping in North America, and only $5 additional to the rest of the world.

http://www.sassafrassgrove.com/ChordBoo ... dBook.html

The page linked above includes a complete list of included tunes.

94 BREAKDOWNS and REELS
20 HORNPIPES
39 JIGS
11 MARCHES
22 MISCELLANEOUS TUNES
6 POLKAS
8 RAGS
17 WALTZES
--

Volume 2 is beginning to take shape. If you have a tune to suggest/request to be included in an upcoming edition, just let me know, and I'll try to get it in.

Cheers!

I think the tune called Squirrel Heads and Gravy would be worth the price of the book alone.

Oh, you know I read an article somewhere that said it wasn't a good idea to eat squirrel heads because there was some concern about that disease that is related to Mad Cow disease---I can't remember what it is called, but squirrel brains are being investigated for those particles or whatever causes that spongiform brain disease I guess. Gee, I didn't mean to be a spoil-sport. It's just that once I mentioned the name of the song, then I felt I had to pass along that caution.

There ya go, jim!

Like "Whiskey Before Breakfast", "Squirrel Heads and Gravy" is a bad idea but a great tune! :)

What a nice CD. Really nice variety in the tunes. They are really generous with their clips---over 2 minutes long. I'm listening to all of them. Thanks for that link, SteveK!

Mary Cox is quite popular with the clawhammer banjo crowd. Her playing is not complicated but usually very tasteful.

I had not encountered her before. As a clawhammer player myself, I thank you for that link! Nice stuff!

The Chords for Westphalia Waltz, 'Pig Ankle Rag', 'South Wind', 'Blackberry Blossum', as well as 'Squirrel Heads 'n' Gravy' are all in the book.

Oh this is awesome! I have ordered your book. I have a lot of these tunes in a binder. They're xeroxes of xeroxes of xeroxes of... Some of them are written by hand. They're so hard to read. It will be great to have them all with chords. I'm learning the mountain dulcimer. This will be my dulcimer tutor.

Thank you. Annie, you are an amazing, talented woman.

If I may chime in...

I have one of these.

This is a delightful little chord book. Extremely compact but with big type so old blind guys like me can read it while it sits on the floor.

I like the layout and it has a gazillion tunes you're actually likely to come across. What could be bad?

Plus, if you buy one, you'll get to exchange an email or two with Annie...well worth the 24 bucks just to visit with such a nice gal. :D

Doc
BTW, Are we allowed to call nice claw-pickin' banjo ladies "gals" these days?

I'm a bit out of the "politically correct" loop out here in Idaho.

Since when is "gal" subject to the PC police? As a Women's Studies major I can say I have no issue with the term.

Just to clarify - the book has the chords for the tunes ... no notation or tablature.

Thank you very much for that, Doc! And since I call everyone 'you guys', I can't bring myself to grouse about 'gals'. It's nice whenever anyone still notices.
