- Tell us something.: I am a walrus, I am a tea pot. John Lennon said that but people see him as a guru. Well, tell, you what he also almost became a piper asking Paddy Keenan to teach him. (bleep) got bored & went on the sitar and the rest is history.

Fave version(s) of Colonel Frazer?
Currently learning said tune. Mainly from version@ back of H Clarke book (anyone know whose version that is?), but it is a bit wayward for me at times. The version on thesession.org is a bit straight, and the Rowsome version (from Rowsome piping book) has a nice 4 part version, missing out the fifth part.
Great fun tune to learn though. what are your fave versions and little trick turns with this one?

Hi Pat:
I have a recording of your version from a while back, and it does rock! Sorry for excluding you. I remember the pizza delivery guy stopping dead in his tracks at the door when he heard you playing it-as a result the damn pizza was cold

Get down on your knees and thank God you're on your feet !

Bobby Casey's version...
There's a great version by Bobby Casey a few minutes in, in this archives Ceili House edition (from Pat D'Arcy's uilleannobsession.com). I'll take Kieran Hanrahan's advice and put it forward as a "great version of Colonel Fraser":

Here's his recording of it: George White's Favorite, Colonel Fraser. Didn't make note of that missing part when I put it in the Archive, hmm.buskerSean wrote: The version on thesession.org is a bit straight, and the Rowsome version (from Rowsome piping book) has a nice 4 part version, missing out the fifth part.
There's a three part fiddle setting, Michael Coleman called it Malloy's, Johnny Doherty plays it as an untitled reel on Bundle and Go. Basically the same tune but it modulates up to Bb in the second part and has F nats instead of sharps. You can play the same setting in A on flutes/pipes. Nice change from the usual tune, which I've always struggled with for some reason.

David Power's
And Tommy Martin's is also quite stellar...though alas I have no record of it to share here.
