How to make a tinwhistle in 4 easy steps.

Post by Walden »

1. Make a tube from tinplate, or else get a pipe made from brass or something.

2. Make a window in it and put a plug in the front to form a mouthpiece.

3. Cut off the under part of the mouthpiece to make a beak.

4. Poke six holes in the top to make it sound in key.

Why am I just hearing of this method now? It's so simple! All this time I could've been making a fortune as a whistle maker!

5. If it doesn't play in key, just move the holes.

6. If it still won't play in tune, sell it on eBay and make another one :D

great method. Playing the whistle is easy, you just don't play the notes that are NOT supposed to be in the tune. Piece of cake really :)

What is better for making the window, glass or plastic? What about curtains?

You mean start by playing all the notes all the time, and then strip out the ones that don't fit?

Exactly,-just like sculpting a staue, you simply chip away anything that doesn't resemble the statue.

Only put curtains over the window if the sound is too bright.

There can be simpler ways,

I'm told that a genuine Didgerydoo is actually made by termites.

I imagine termites might be encouraged to do things with a bit more sophistication, but I've only seen whistle manufacture done in less steps here http://chiffboard.mati.ca/viewtopic.php ... ht=#637930

(apologies for the crypto-post ;) )
All the best!

Tell us something.: I play whistles. I sell whistles. This seems just a BIT excessive to the cause. A sentence or two is WAY less than 100 characters.

Even easier

1. Do the research

2. Place the order

3. Pay the money

4. Receive the whistle in the mail.

Simple as ever. :P
