I am not amazed by the thread and I am not surprised by your surprise. I know about threads.MTGuru wrote:......
Wow ... an amazing and surprising thread.
Threads, by their very nature, twist and turn. Even if nothing much is said, even in still air , a thread will collapse upon itself and create a random twisted bundle. Threads are consistently like this.
There is no such thing as an innately upright thread
and nothing worthwhile and enduring can be made with threads
without needles.
And that, dear children, is why most moderators
are a little twisted .....

Very complex knots can be made with threads without needles, and I think knots are very worthwhile and enduring.
I think twisted and turned threads are much more like knots than random twisted bundles.
You don't end up with a neat little line of stitches, but who could fail to be awed by the elegant overs and unders
and apparent snarls which resolve into a lovely form when someone brilliantly tightens the strands?

But I guess you gotta filter out the spambots.

awildman wrote:I for one find it hard to believe that somebody knows what a 'link' is but not an mp3 player. They have the ability and knowledge to use a computer, but don't pay attention when they walk through the electronics section of their Walmart or Target or Fred Meyers? Or they never see young people using them? Or watch TV ads?
And that leads me to ask this: How do they know what one is called without knowing what one is? A person who has only a passing interest would be satisfied with knowing it is a personal media player. If someone were more interested in the technology, they would most likely ask more specific questions.
While not definite, the odds are approximately three thousand, seven hundred and twenty to one that this is a troll. In which case he/she got the desired result.
I'm suspecting the thread is a new tactic in message-board spam.
The first poster referenced a post by carter18 about the "best mp3 payer". It was Wyatt's only post.
carter18 has only ever posted to push an online electronics company.
By posting in a way to make things look conversational, they're less likely to be detected as spam, and thus, carter18's posts don't get deleted, helping the rank of that company in Google's search algorithms.
Well done. I was trying to figure out how it could be spam, but IWanderer wrote:carter18 has only ever posted to push an online electronics company.
hadn't noticed the carter18 posts. Now, it's chicken and egg: did
wyatt1 post in order to hide carter18's spamming, or was the
carter18 spambot lured in by wyatt1's innocent thread title?
Methinks Occam's razor narrows it down to the former. QED.
