My new baby is here- and does it sing!!!!

Post by cowtime »

After 6 months of hunting, today my new baby grand piano was delivered!!! We traveled far and wide and I can't even remember how many pianos I tried. This one did not have the case(style) I like, but it definitely had the sound and feel and after coming back, again and again to this one, I realized it was calling to me...

I've spent the last three hours playing and will probably pay for it tomorrow, but, whooeee, does this thing sound fantastic. You should know that it replaces my 43 year old spinet that I grew up playing. There is just no comparison. I never thought to buy a piano, but my old one had become barely playable and so I rarely played more than necessary to do the organ on Sunday. I realized last January that some things ( in my case, piano) are necessary to life and sometimes you just gotta bite the bullet and do it!

I feel like I'm in a dream.....

Soooo....what was the first tune you played? I am so excited for you, you'd think it was me getting the darn thing!

Congrats on your baby, cowtime!

Hey, you know...maybe that's the problem! I've always wanted a baby and have been asking for one for years. Now that I have 11, maybe being more specific would have been a good thing?

The first tune I played was Nefeli, by Ludovico Einaudi- you can hear him playing it here-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vbE-7kjT6M

This was my "test" music for all the pianos I tried out in my search. It has so much expression and range that it is not only a beautiful piece of music, it is a good one to hear what a piano can do.
Second was "All Creatures of our God and King" 'cause I can really bang that one out.

I tell you, I had hunted and hunted- who'd of thought it would be so difficult to find "the" piano? If I hadn't gotten this one my next step was going to be to get on a plane to DC to find more to try. (my husband is more relieved than I am, he was tired of piano shopping) and lest you think it, I am not a wealthy person, just a crazy one.

Whew, I'm glad I never asked for one....it just kinda evolved during the search. Otherwise, instead of two, I might have.....oh, that's scary......

Yeah, but only myself and husband and the dogs here now. And the two oldest dogs are deaf!

You know, once, during a really, really bad time in life, I did get up at three in the morning and played for at least an hour. I did have family here and no one said a word- Piano kept me somewhat sane during that time. It was literally therapy- can't think of anything else when you are playing you know. I've played almost all my life and really couldn't think of life without it.

Congratulations on the new baby grand. It is so exciting, and even better to be able to tell people about it, especially people that can relate to the excitement of a long sought after and expensive musical instrument, and then to finally have it.

I can identify with playing music as therapy. My music has gotten me through some very difficult times. I've never been one for meditation, however, playing music seems to bring me to a similar mind as other people describe their times of deep meditation.

So true.

I may not be the greatest musician, but more than once, playing music has gotten me to where I need to be, and for that I am grateful.

How does this happen?
Do the moving parts wear down and become sluggish?
