Your next dream instrument

Post by CHasR »

Ok, its a musician 'wish list' thing...
money and time being no object;
which instrument (sorry, pick only one) would you MOST like to tackle next??

and if youre content playing what you already play, then say that. :)

I'd really like a Cameron flute -- maybe a Grenser copy, middle joints for A415 and A440. Oh, yeah, I've got one coming TOMORROW!!!!

My dream instruments have often been disappointing. Among us science geeks there's a saying that the further one is from solving a (practical) problem, the more attractive the solutions are. It's become evident to me that the further one is from playing an instrument, the easier it looks to play. So several years ago my wife and I got a harp. It was one on consignment, sharping levers on C and F, 26 strings. I made a couple of small harps, but everything seemed awfully limited, so we got the Cadillac, a Dusty 36, full blades. In hindsight, what's limited isn't the harps but our ability to play them.

Same thing happened when we got a Portuguese guitarra. I mean, we can't play it, not that we got four of them.

I'm not taking up any new instruments till I can play the damn flute well, and play the flute damn well.

A Reverend Daredevil or Warhawk II. I haven't decided which yet.

No learning new instruments for me; I've got enough work for this lifetime mastering the ones I already know.

I DID want to learn Scottish Bagpipes. My dad gave me his Shuttles, Dunbar practice chanter, and three College of Piping tutors. Unfortunatly, I'm far too hung up on whistles to learn pipes.

So...my dream instrument would be say...a full set of Thin Weasels....or Burkes...or just one of every awesome whistle ever made!

Timely thread for me.

Tonight I bought a new baby......Grand!!!!!!

It will replace my barely clinging to life old Baldwin spinet that was bought for me when I was starting piano in 1964. It has taken six months of traveling far and wide to find this baby but I hope to be able to actually enjoy playing again within the week!!!!!!

Y'all will definitely be seeing pictures as soon as this little one arrives!!!!

YEEEHAWWWWWW!!!!!!!! :D

I've heard mixed reviews of the McChud's, but I'm always up for a challenge.

Whoa!!! Stop the presses on that one! I just got a private message from a very prominent C&Fer, who requested anonymity. It seems the entire McChud line, including the McPud line of male enhancement products, has been acquired by Sam Ash, Inc. This appears to have been a hostile takeover, prompted by upper management's requirement that the chronologically accomplished Sam either get his ashes hauled or bail altogether.

Scuttlebutt is that all production facilities are being migrated from Pakistan to Silver Springs, MD, and that a certain vice named Dick has been offered a prime spot in the corner office, should it become necessary, given the climate and circumstances in his current environment.

I'm not averse to risk, but jeepers, this flute and whistle thing is just a hobby. Some of these guys are doing real time! I really think I'm just gonna stick with what I've got until the dust settles.

I always wanted to learn the tenor sax. My old boyfriend used to play it, but he was very possessive of his and only let me play it once. (I think he was mad that I picked it up so fast & could play a tune on it the first time I tried).

My other dream instrument is the double bass. That looks like a lot of fun.

Tell us something.: "Tell us something" hits me a bit like someone asking me to tell a joke. I can always think of a hundred of them until someone asks me for one. You know how it is. Right now, I can't think of "something" to tell you. But I have to use at least 100 characters to inform you of that.

THE Yamaha 842s euphonium. Supposed to be nigh perfect on the intonation throughout the range, a rare thing in euphs. Haven't had a chance to play one yet, but ain't she a beaut?

I would love to learn to play a low D whistle next, and my only setback is the money to buy one. But I think you'll agree that for a college student, money is a notable setback. :P Anyway, I'll get there someday.

I found the instrument I've always longed for when I took up the harp. I spend hours (literally!) practicing...it's hard for me to put it down to do mundane things like cleaning or cooking dinner!

An "instrument" I'd love to develop is my voice. I've always loved singing, and wished I had a voice that could do the music justice.
