Availability
Friends of the Fipple, Chums of the Chiff,
Dad and I would like to offer the use of the place for the great, 4th annual NEWG, Inc..
Sundays in July:
The 15th is good.
The 22nd is also good. That will be the day after the Deep River (CT) fife and drum muster. Shouldn't be a problem for NEWG. I'll be back on site all day Sunday.
The 29th is not so good. Dad and I both will be gone.
If the plan gels a little more, will someone take the lead to contact me at waltsweet@hotmail.com (I don't keep my eyes on C & F, sorry Dale).
Walt

Setting a Date
It looks like J U L Y 2 9 is the most agreeable date thus far.
Question: Does anybody among the likely participants disagree with July 29 ?
I think I can make it. Tom Dowling can. Paul and Charlene Busman can.
The Sweets won't be available then, so we'll need a new place.

- Tell us something.: Well, I've been a contributor and visitor to this site since 2001. At one time or another, one of my photographs was the opening page photograph. My teacher was Bill Ochs. I play the Penny Whistle. Not a lot else to say.

OK. If there are no objections, I will look into the plotting of distances. If everyone who intends to attend will send me their approximate point of departure, I will do some map work and try to eyeball/figure out the theoretical midpoint. Feel free to send the approximate starting point via the message board, a PM or to my e-mail address.
PS: If you have five minutes to spare and want to see a neat instrument, visit my Big Brother, Ed, at:

NEWG
Hi all,
I see that you're trying to pick a date and place for a gathering, but being new, I don't know what it's all about . Would someone mind telling us new kids on the block about it? Thanks,
Lyn D

Re: NEWG
Easy-- hang out with other whistle players, play tunes, try everyone's instruments (bring stuff other than whistles too, such as mandolins, fiddles, flutes etc).Lyn D wrote:Hi all,

These events are very newbie friendly-- you'll meet some nice folks, see lots of great instruments and go home with some new friends. Bring your own food and beverages. Don't be shy!
Tom-- for practical plotting purposes, you can use Albany as our location.
Love that aluminum guitar!

RESULTS OF MAPPING EXERCISE THUS FAR:
I have printed out maps, driving distances and driving times for all combinations involving the four starting points I have so far: near Philly, Brooklyn, Kennebunkporto and Albany. If I squint my eyes and seek an illusory 'fair and reasonable equal drive for all' spot--with the understanding that the outlyers are the outlyers and no Google legerdermain will change that--I believe it would be in the northwest quadrant of Ct--perhaps 50 miles west of Hartford, perhaps a bit north.
These are preliminary observations based on input from four folks.
