My 15 min of fame...

Post by brewerpaul »

OK,it's just the Troy Record, but last Sunday they ran an article about me, my career change to OR nurse, and also about my whistle making. Sorry, the scan cut part off.

Grats, Paul! By the way, I've always assumed you've had fame within the whistle community for years now.

Tell us something.: I've been with Chiff and Fipple since shortly after I bought my first low D. I've learned loads from this community, and I intend to continue to learn and contribute. Many thanks to Dale and everyone who makes this site happen.

All the best Paul. Congratulations! You have chosen a vital role. I have had several major operations in the past five years and I am very aware of your value to a patient. Cyril.

I truly admire your career move.
In our world success is generally
perceived only in terms of position,
power, or money.

You have pushed the envelope -
congratulations and every success.

Brewer Paul's lot could be worse
Than demotion (foot doctor to nurse).
Now toenails he's not trimmin'
For vain men and women!
(Though it may be a trim in the purse).
He's no longer cutting toe nails,
Now he's adjusting bed rails.
He'll be whistling under his mask
While doing his surgical task
Watching incising of moles
While dreaming of cutting tone holes!

Mack, another late in life career changer.

Paul,
Congratulations! I thought you had some plans afoot.

Hi, Paul, that is an inspiring story. It's helpful to hear about someone who's taking a big step forward, especially when it's as unconventional as yours. Best wishes to you in your new career! Art

Wow! That's really a great story. I think it would take a lot of nerve to make such a big change after a person had been on a certain track for a long time---actually, it can be hard to make a big change any time. Maybe the story will help people to think about other plans if they feel they could be happier. My two nieces are planning to be nurses. They are still in high school, so who knows, other things may come up, but I think it is a field with many opportunities and many different kinds of work and with a wonderful potential to be of real service to others.

The photos in the paper are great. You know the little one where you are holding a whistle you made? Well, you are so darned CUTE in that one . I bet Charlene thought that was a good one too!

Good for you Paul, change can be good. As far as fame goes you already have that in the whistle community.

Any chance you could scan the rest of the story?

Tell us something.: "Tell us something" hits me a bit like someone asking me to tell a joke. I can always think of a hundred of them until someone asks me for one. You know how it is. Right now, I can't think of "something" to tell you. But I have to use at least 100 characters to inform you of that.

Congratulations, Paul. In this age of obsession with money and status,
it's nice to see someone making a change for the right reasons.

Good luck!
