I'd say something snarky, like how I wasn't even a twinkle in me mother's eye when it came out, but I won'tcowtime wrote:40 years ago.....say it ain't so Izz, say it ain't so.....

As for the album, it's not my favorite either. I like Abbey Road much better. But it was cool to start the thread like that, don't you think?

I don't care how many times they try to rehash it, nor what band of losers they try to use to cover it, there's nothing that can compare to the original.wiki wrote:40th anniversary re-recording
June 1, 2007 will mark the fortieth anniversary of the release of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The BBC has marked this occasion by organizing some of the biggest rock acts such as Oasis, The Killers, Razorlight, Kaiser Chiefs, The Fratellis, Travis and The Zutons to re-record the album. The complete re-recording will be aired on BBC Radio 2 on June 2.[7]

Here's the first one I ever bought- paid $3. and some odd cents for the thing. That tells you when THAT was!

I was going to start a thread like this.
Happy 40th, Sgt Pepper's!
Last weekend we had some friends over, and it was a beautiful summerish weekend, so I was listening to Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys when they showed up. They loved it, and I had to point out that John Lennon had said that if Pet Sounds hadn't been made, Sgt Peppers never would have been made.
Personally, I'm not sure I'd put Sgt Pepper's in the top half of my favorite Beatles albums, but it's a fine piece of work and I realize that much of the music-fan world doesn't feel the same as I do.

If not my #1, it's right the heck up there. The first time I heard it (I was, alas, 18, not 6) I was totally blown away. It was SO different from anything I'd ever heard, and every song was so different from all the others. There were some songs that I couldn't figure out WHY I liked them, but I did anyway. When the draft lottery started (Vietnam era) my number was 64 .Joseph E. Smith wrote:I remember getting the record for X-mas that year (I was 6), and it became, hell it still is, my favorite album of all time.
Here's a good Sgt. Pepper editorial from the Washington Post (you may have to sign up to read it, but it's totally free)
