I can't believe you guys have left out my favourite female vocalist- Alison Krauss. Amazing voice, and excellent fiddle player. (Bluegrass, not ITM. But she did perform with The Chieftains once.)

I thought of another one . . . ugh!! . . . Alison Krauss (not sure how we missed her!).

For those of you who like her (and neo-bluegrass), check out the relatively new group "Crooked Still" - their lead singer Aoife O'Donovan is right on Alison's tail. Beuatifully seductive voice.

I won't bother to list those who have already been mentioned, but I'll add one (for the Broadway fans): Lea Salonga. Oh, and Patti LuPone.

I think a lot of people are getting "great vocalist" mixed up with "great musician." You can be a great musician, a successful singer-songwriter, etc., without being a great vocalist. A lot of successful singers are not great vocalists, in fact.

Karan Casey is a brilliant singer AND a great musician.

I'm dumbfounded that she wasn't mentioned earlier.
