I can take surly...but "not worth the effort"???

A forum about Uilleann (Irish) pipes and the surly people who play them.

In this age of modern electronics that can do everything except accurately replicate the sound of a violin...
um... Not so much any more

This Stradivari Violin is a sample library so technically it's fake, and can be purchased as a software library you can play on a computer for less than $200.

It's versitile too.

Can you tell which recording was played real time and which was produced from a midi file?
There's and old Irish saying that says pretty much anything you want it to.

I'm fond of this quite:

"You Irish and French pipers are the nerds of the pipe world,"

Hmmm, I'm wondering if I can indeed come up with a valid retort to that one???

...just when I seem to be getting close the subject of reeds comes up...and any thoughts of countering the above statement seem to evapourate.
Sadly, "Nerds of the pipe world" seems our fate.

Perhaps "Kings (or Queens) of the pipe world" also applies?

Yes, Brother Nano. It comes as no surprise that we are of similar opinion here. What does one really expect out of a website called "Drivl"??? I doubt names like Sontag or Buckley Jr. inhabit the mast head!

In fact one might even pity this poor witless cretin... whom I suspect spends much of his free time treating his knuckles for carpet burn. Imagine the creative power it takes to compose phrases like "a seriously suck-hole piece of work". My friends, you have to stand in awe of his sheer genius.

Yes, pity this terribly bitter, cultureless, little cybertroll. Clearly he’s suicidal. After all, might not spewing your crap in public at a volatile group of pipers have it’s own unique set of negative consequences!

My advice to Mr. Roy: Most pipers, even the nerdy ones, are involved in an elaborate organized crime syndicate. We all have been trained to kill. Stop writing NOW. Flee the country. Somebody’s going to take your diatribes far too seriously and curb stomp you to the tune of “Thogail Nam Bo Theid sinn”

Have a liberal serving of some decent whiskey, get that enema you’ve put off all those years. And if you don't like recorders, harpsichords, organs, bagpipes and hurdy gurdies...stay the hell out of Canada!!!

Might I suggest moving to a deserted island close to an active volcano….. :swear:

Or maybe your playing it sounded like a banjo :boggle: There is a guy here in Glasgow who mikes up his fidil for accoustic sessions so that ye can hear it more. Trouble is he plays really badly and oot of tune mostly although he probably thinks he is Yehudi which brings me onto my main thrust which is why are ye even giving the time o day to this thread? The guy is entitled to an opinion....

God, what session is that?! Pack the guy up and send him over here. Us Americans have a far more well-established reputation of hearing only what we want to hear... :D

One of our local pipers here once had a guy walk up to him while he was playing, stare intently at the pipes for a minute and ask, "Is that a trumpet?"

Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

One hopes he has a particular audience in mind.

His choice of reviled instruments tells me he's not an utter ignoramus: at least he knows enough what to call them, and displays an at least passing understanding of their contexts and repertories. I'll bet he even knows what an esraj is. But the gutter-patois is a fine dissonance that distracts the casual onlooker, for a bit, from what must be his shame at even knowing such things. It makes me wonder about the demographic whose approval he craves, and what he plays.

Of course, I'm not above using adjectives like "suck-hole", myself. But you knew that.

Justine, that's a coincidence! A lady thought my pipes were a trumpet just this past Monday night. I had them on, but was also holding my fiddle. She was kind of checking out who was playing what, and when she got to me she was like, "ooh, and another violinist, and a trumpet too!" I just smiled at her. Then I played the pipes, and she looked a bit confused and asked me, "are those bagpipes??"

Yes, I know. And there's nothing wrong with that. But I wager you and others on this forum would come up with something far more imaginative in context. Richard Pryor used many choice words too...the difference: he was talented.
It makes me wonder about the demographic whose approval he craves, and what he plays.
Hmmm....indeed...maybe he's trying to score points with a teenage viola player??Perhaps he's a failed Didgeridoo player??? We have it revealed thru this very thread that Almighty God is himself a piper! ( Holy Reeds??)

I can't get to the website, for some reason. Can someone email me the text? (and then post here that you've done it so I don't get multiple copies).

Thanks!
