No, no. You're seeing a rule that's not there. Doesn't have to be your only choices. Doesn't even have to be your favorite choices.
Okay, okay, I'm thinking.
Let's see.... Missing Persons - Spring Session M.....no wait. The Go-Go's..... Uh uhn......Duran Duran....... Oh, I've got it! Men without Hats.....no, maybe I better not admit to that one, ummm........

OK, OK, I admit it --
In the Court of the Crimson King
Lark's Tongues in Aspic
Red
And while we're taking the road less travelled:
Velvet Underground - Peel Slowly and See
Patti Smith - Horses
Spirit - The Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus

I love time wasting like this!
U2 - Joshua Tree
They Might Be Giants - Flood
Paul Simon - Graceland
Tracy Chapman - Tracy Chapman
Arlo Guthrie - Hobo's Lullaby
Oops, that's 5...with a lot more possible, but none of these had been mentioned.
BTW - I love Selling England by the Pound - early Genesis w/Gabriel rocked.

Renaissance - Live at Carnegie Hall
Wow. I didn't think anyone else outside of Italy had hear of PFM.
I'd go with Strawbs: Hero & Heroine; or Grave New World
Renaissance: Scherezade or however you spell it.

Lark's Tongues in Aspic is a fabulous record, terrific cover, and one of the greatest album names of all time.
And, I've always wanted to write SOMETHING with the title "Book of Saturdays."

Are you kidding? I think there was a generally bemused response when people first found out that a band from Italy could put out a tune this good:

Dude, my senior year in high school i wanted to
be Eddie Jobson
I wore the grooves off that first UK album... they weren't the same after Holdsworth and Bruford split though.

I agree with the first choice here; the others I like but don't associate with perfection. A few prog albums I do associate with perfection are:
Soft Machine — First
Soft Machine — Second
Soft Machine — Third
Caravan — In the Land of the Grey and Pink

And a six pack of soul:
Aretha Franklin — I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)
The Temptations — Temptin' Temptations
Otis Redding — Otis Blue
Solomon Burke — Rock 'n Soul
Garnett Mimms — Cry Baby and 11 Other Hits
Howard Tate — Get It While You Can

I never get tired of listening to this.
Shawn Colvin
"Steady On"
I sing the birdie tune

It sends them to the moon
