I buy a lot of used books from Half.com . You can sell stuff there too (Amaon.com has a similar service, but for some reason I'm usually more lucky finding what I want at hald.com). I almost NEVER buy new books anymore.

I look at two local newspapers as well as the NY Times and Washington post every day.

One R/C airplane forum
