Well, a Lockheed Shooting Star figures prominently in my first work of fiction. So I guess I'll have to claim a special fondness for that craft even though I've no doubt I butchered the details pertaining to flying it.

I'm not sure about favourites, or how any of these can be a "winner" but this one has some family connection. My uncle was a tail gunner until shot down and captured.

This one still gets a lot of press in Canada. It was so far ahead of its time that US President Eisenhower made a special fishing trip up to Canada with our then prime minister, and immediately afterwards, Canada pulled the rug out from under the project, burned all the plans, and destroyed all the models built to date. The team that Avro had assembled to build the Arrow soon afterwards showed up in the US as the design team for NASA's bid for space.

I'm a Kelly Johnson fan as well, so the P-38 is up there as well. Glad this thread started!

And whether the blood be highland, lowland or no.
And whether the skin be black or white as the snow.
Of kith and of kin we are one, be it right, be it wrong.
As long as our hearts beat true to the lilt of a song.
