Back from the hospital... (don't panic..hehe!)

Post by Wanderer »

and my son is recovering from eye surgery to correct strabismus (crossed eyes). It's a family trait. I had it, my mom and aunt had it.

He was a trooper, and very brave..the ..now, he's a bit whiney and in pain, but mostly just zonked out...he's a good kid.

It's kind of amazing. When I had this done, I was in the hospital a week. It *was* 29 years ago. He was in and out in 3 and a half hours.

Glad to hear he did well. I hope he is very happy with the results after his ordeal, and that mom and dad are too!

I'm really glad to hear that everything went well, and I hope any pain is short-lived.

And kudos to the advance of medical technology.

Your child having surgery is as hard on you as it is on them. I'm glad to hear it's all over and done and everyone is fine.

I'm glad that the surgery went well. When I was a child in the late 40's, I had a similar problem with my eyes; I began to see two of everything. No one else in my family had this problem. I remember driving in a car a long distance to another state where they were doing an experimental surgical procedure to correct crossed eyes. It was at an osteopathic hospital in Michigan. The procedure didn't involve any cutting of tissue. Instead the doctors removed the eyeball from the socket and with their hands massaged and stretched the muscles that control the positioning of the eye. It sounds like a procedure that would not have been recommended by a M.D., but the good news for me was that the operation was completely successful. After the procedure I never had a problem with cross eyes again.

Kids are brave. Hospitals and dentists scare the cr*p out of me.

I haven't been to the dentist in 20 years (Yeah yeah, I know, it's because I'm British! :P ). I am fortunate that my teeth are good, because if I needed a visit to the tooth fairy they'd have to shoot me with one of those rhino tranquilisers first.

First thing I'd say to a dentist? "Not gonna hurt each other, are we?"

By the avatar, you can probably guess that my eyes aren't in such good shape!

Hope your nipper is soon free of discomfort, Wanderer. Glad it went well. :) :)

Dentists I'm not afraid of (my mother has done all my dental work from the time I was born), but hospitals? Oh, man. They freak me out. It just makes me feel really weird that we take all of our sick people and put them together in one building.
