trying to put flute tunes on internet for people to learn

Haven't really got the hang of this. I'll get something more sensible done during the week. Everyone will already know the ones so far. I'll dig a bit deeper next time.

Very cool idea! Some months ago I spearheaded a short-run tin-whistle podcast. Wasn't able to make a go of it, but it was certainly fun. Hope you find your site equally enjoyable (and that it lives a long, happy life).

I look forward to learning a few tunes from you.

Cool! I've always been clueless about a flutey setting for Pigtown. Thank you!!!!!!! And wonderful playing. I only made it partway through Lady on the Island before I had to run to a meeting, but I'm looking forward to listening later! Neat idea, good luck with it, and again .... thank you!!!! :-)

Wow, I just got back and finished listening. Wow, wow, wow! Awesome!!!!! :-)

The first tune's The Lady on the Island (I like the beginning; it feels like Speed the Plough for a sec, there). Mr. Mighty Mike C lists the second tune as The Copperplate (we know it as The New Copperplate (as opposed to The Old Copperplate)) and the third tune as Fahy's.

At the risk of being redundant, WOW! AWESOME!!!! Thank you!!! MORE!!!

Tell us something.: I restore 19th century flutes, specializing in Rudall & Rose, and early American flutes. I occasionally make new flutes. Been at it for about 15 years.

Hi,
Sounds great! We could always use more tunes, keep it up!

Michael Tubridy did a very nice solo track of it on Chieftains 2. One of my favourite recordings of the man.

Tell us something.: I play the first flute Jon Cochran ever made but haven't been very active on the board the last 9-10 years. Life happens I guess...I owned a keyed M&E flute for a while and I kind of miss it.

Thanks for mentioning this! I have that CD but never really listen to it, and that track is a real gem. Tie The Ribbon's a great tune, too.

Thanks very much, Michael! It's really nice to have these traditional tunes-I have very little in the way of traditional recordings, other than the WFOs (which are great), so it's nice to have this now for me, and as you can see by the response-many others love it too!

Great idea, and even better execution! Good job!

Wrong title

Post by cocusflute »

Isn't the track titled Humors of Drinagh actually Trip to Athlone?
Humors of Drinagh starts F#DF# ABC#/df#d eC#A/
Trip to Athlone ABA D2d/ dC#A AGE/

Both lovely jigs with the same - is "modality" the right word here?
