Hi, I'm Cathy and I think "Danny Boy" is a beautiful melody.

In our 15 years as a band, we'd done Danny Boy twice -- both times at wakes when the deceased specifically requested it (before becoming the deceased, of course). Anyway, we recently discovered it's a brilliant fund-raiser -- we were playing at a benefit for Father Maloney's Boy's Haven (, really!) earlier this year, and people were asking for it as usual. So we told folks if they could completely fill the donations jar for the poor wee unfortunates we'd take the plunge.

So the Boy's Haven folks emptied the jar, set it down, and "The Great Danny Boy Challenge" began ... the cash stuffed in added up to something like $800! :boggle:

I'm so glad we did that.

On the other hand, I shudder to think what that stupid Unicorn Song would bring in.

SPEAKING OF ... in the middle of a weekend of the SONG WHOSE NAME SHOULD ONLY BE WRITTEN ON A BEER MAT ACCOMPANIED BY NOT ONE, BUT TWO $500 BILLS), I was approached by a mom who told me what her children thought its lyrics REALLY were ....

(are you ready?)

(this is great)

"Musha rig a rum dum da .....

Waffles, Spaghetti-O's, waffles, Spaghetti-O's, there's biscuits in the jar!"

Brilliant, just brilliant!

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

Did I tell you of the time a tipsy young lady asked for "Oh, Danny Boy", and to jog our memories sang it to "Oh, Holy Night"?

My kids can't...although I think they usually like to call it "Londonderry Air" when they're up for a good giggle ;)

TSWNMNBM?!?!

Who woulda thunk there would be such a thing. Since St. Patty's Day has past this year, I think I'll turn my attention to learning the enchanting melody to "It's a Small World."

Now how does that go again? Everyone sing out now...

"It's a small world after all. It's a small world after all..."

And thusly we purge "Danny Boy" from your thoughts.

Oddly enough "TSWNMNBM" comes up as "DISCERNMENT" in my spell-checker.
Daniel

It's my opinion - highly regarded (and sometimes not) by me. Peace y'all.

I thought that it was The Unicorn Song.
I thought it was The Irish Washerwoman.
