My first job in 30 years!

Post by brewerpaul »

Woo hoo! As of June 4, I'll be an OR nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy. I just had my interview and they offered me the job. I am majorly psyched. (For those who don't know, this is my first "job" since I've been self employed as a podiatrist for those 30 years-- now I'll get to work for someone else and let THEM worry about the business!)

Paul,

Congratulations! OR nurse is it? Beware of Friday nights and every night of the full moon. Drunks on Friday nights and, shall we say "unusual" personalities during the full moon. :)

Congratulations  ! I agree with emmline that it hardly seems long enough ago that you were talking about your plans to go to nursing school---I'm glad it has all worked out so well. Did your wife graduate from nursing school a while back as well? Perhaps I am confused.

Congratulations, Paul. One more nurse in the world to ease the shortage! Maybe you'll even scrub in for some podiatric surgery. That would be fun when you tell the podiatrist, "Watch that tendon!", especially if he/she doesn't know that you are a podiatrist too.
Enjoy not having to study for five hours after you get home from work! And you get a paycheck!

Congrats, Paul! Maybe you'll get your own reality-TV show called "Nurse, MD" or "Doctor, RN". :)

Congratulations!

When you're an OR nurse are you regularly scheduled to work as a part of a specific doctor's team
or just work for any surgeon in general?

That's fantastic, Paul! Did you have to go for more schooling after the preliminary stuff to get your RN in order to work in the OR?

Mr Izz is in nursing school right now (first semester). Judging on what he's had to endure thus far (which isn't all that long), my hat is off to anyone who gets through it. It's a very time consuming and grueling curriculum. Congratulations!

Congratulations! I too remember you starting on this career change. I admire anyone who can do that.
