Hint: Although at least half of the *word* 'stairs' is 'air', the vast majority of the *fact* of stairs is hard, pointy, hard, pointy, and again hard with a major dose of hard again at the end. This is best handled with feet, preferably shod, as all other portions of the anatomy are grievously ill equipped for travel on such surfaces.
The sad fact is that stairs are also mischevious ... nay, even vindictive, and will trip you without the slightest provocation, expecially if they sense that you may be slightly inebriated (though if you are extremely inebriated, they don't seem to take such joy in passing you along from top to bottom - perhaps because you would be more likely to a.- not remember the event later, thus robbing said steppy culprit the joy of seeing you flinch next time you meet, and/or b.- the possibility that you would be so slow in catching your senses that you might not be nearly as affected by the 'adventure' physically).
Yes, I know I probably should have revealed this important information to you last night, prior to your 'adventure', but I just want to be sure you understand the situation, now that you've gone and proven me right.
Hopefully, you won't be in the unenviable position of taking basic knitting lessons, which is a long session of "cast on"...
The buggers got me once -sober as a judge, so, I know whereof I speak.
May your proof of the incident be but a bit of bruising, and may you now take your revenge by playing the tune "Tripping Up The Stairs" both loud and shrill.
Heal quickly!

Now isn't alcohol a pain killer? Sounds like a vicious cycle to me.chrisoff wrote:AbsolutelyThe Whistle Collector wrote:were you drunk?
Apparently I've just badly damaged the muscle. Painkillers and ice packs are the order of the day now. The doctor said it's going to be a peach of a bruise in a couple of days.
In the future I shall only drink at ground level...

And whether the blood be highland, lowland or no.
And whether the skin be black or white as the snow.
Of kith and of kin we are one, be it right, be it wrong.
As long as our hearts beat true to the lilt of a song.

When you drink, stand still.
I am reminded of the sage advice of Andy Capp, who, when asked why he always drank standing up, replied, "It's easier to get sitting down when you got drunk standing up than it is to get standing up when you got drunk sitting down."

The ice and ibuprofen helped last night. I can move it around a bit more and managed to walk to work today. Funnily enough I'm not getting much sympathy here either...
