What he said. I remember somewhere in his Letters Tolkine saying that they did indeed die, but I don't own a copy of the Letters myself so I couldn't look it up, so take that with a grain of salt.peeplj wrote:Yep. I think this summarizes it nicely, in every point.TelegramSam wrote:I read somewhere that they ended up on Tol Eressea, "The Lonely Isle" not the Undying Lands. I wish I could remember where I read that, I think it might have been in one of those lost tales type books that Tolkien's son put together.
If anything, they probably simply were given a time to heal and gain a bit of peace before passing on. They were, after all, mortal, and it's quite clearly stated in several places (especially throughout the Silmarillion) that the final fate of the souls of mortals is not the same as that of the Elves, though nobody knows what Illuvitar (the Creator of Middle-Earth) had in mind for them, not even the Valar.
Them gaining immortality in the Undying Lands wouldn't make sense at all in the context of Tolkien's world, just wouldn't follow the rules of it at all.

C'mon. Comin' on the Saint Patrick's Day festivities, robust audience participation is what you want. Nothing like the music hall and vaudeville classics: "When Irish Eyes are Smiling" can't be beat for dippin'-deep-in-the-mawk-pot begorraoke. Sure it'll bring a tear to their eye.Wanderer wrote:I see your new agey elvish singing and raise you gollum, samwise, and potatotes techno.BigDavy wrote:Well this should get the thread locked

Did anything ever happen on that video? I kind of pulled the little gear along when I got bored, but I don't think I missed anything compelling.BigDavy wrote:Well this should get the thread locked
