Humphrey Concert Series

Post by jonharl »

Does anyone have the new Humphrey Concert Series? It's supposed to be inbetween a Stealth and a Journeyman. I'd be interested in first impressions?

Jon

I ordered one by the way.

I'm afraid you're a bit early in asking, as the first three are still sitting on my kitchen table waiting to be shipped off to Switzerland later today.
Amar should be happily tooting on them in around a week, so he'll be the man to give first impressions.
I will say that my website has been recently updated to list the new whistles, and that any pending orders of Stealth or Journeyman whistles will still be able to honored.
And if get a lot of complaints about discontinuing them, I'll probably add the Stealth and Journeyman listing back to my website.
Regards,
Gary Humphrey

Going by the other Humphrey Whistles that I've owned the Concert Deries should be a great whistle.

Can't really say too much yet, haven't had the time to test them, one thing is sure, since they are brass, they are surely heavier than non-brass low whistles, but it's not bothersome at all, the weight feels good in the hands, the brass itself is fairly thin, making the holes feel a wee bit sharp on the fingers when slurring. They are pure in sound with, for me, just the right amount of resistance when blowing. So far, I'm very happy. :)

HI Amar, Looking forward to hearing your detailed review!

Many thanks for the pics - I just love seeing the precision of Garry's work!

If the concert series is any better than the stealth and journeyman ... wow, it's hard to imagine!
All the best!

Hey Amar what keys did you get? They look great as usual for Gary's work.

amar...
Thanks for the pics! Lookin' good. Just wondering if the sound of these low whistles reminds you of any other lows you've played. (Descriptive terms, like "pure" can be hard to comprehend. A comparison with other hopefully familiar sounds is often helpful.) Thanks.

here's what I'll do, I have various lows from various makers. I'll record a real short bit, I mean real short, so you won't notice (I hope) how novice-oid I am, then you can hear for yourself. OTOH, if one can't hear the difference, when recorded, I'll try to put it in words. :)
