I've got the deadly jar sitting here beside the computer. Why I don't know-I didn't put it there. ......
Our jar has the code on the lid. Like some others of you, we've got another jar with the same code with maybe enough to make half a sandwich left, the rest is long gone.

You could seek medical attention before you have symptoms. Just a thought.Dale wrote:Oh great. I just threw away an unopened jar of Peter Pan peanut butter with the "2111" code indicating it is part of the salmonella recall. The bad news: I also threw away a half-empty jar. I'm so totally screwed.
I’ve eaten Adam’s Old Fashioned Peanut Butter for so long, the ingredients are peanuts and a bit of salt, I find common peanut butter nasty! I do have to keep the peanut oil stirred into it, but I found I can begin the mixing process simply by storing unopened jars upside down. I should suggest they ship the jars upside down.

Discussing politics is like having a conversation with the ex. You know that no matter what the subject....it could be as innocent as what you had to eat for lunch....you know that they are going to somehow work your past sins into the conversation

Standard commercial peanut butter is for sure nasty if you've habituated yourself to the pure stuff. But yeah, you pay a small price for non-hydrogenated lipids: separation. One word: refrigerator. Stir in the oil however you have to do it, but the fridge keeps it all stable. Probably a good idea to chill it beforehand, anyway, just to facilitate the process. There's this locally produced brand that's just peanuts and salt and you find it prechilled among the cheeses and eggs, so it's unseparated and very convenient for those among us who demand simplicity, zero trans fats, the gratification of entitlement and unseparated nut butters. Used to be the choices were creamy and chunky. Like, duh. Cheap enough, anyway, health issues aside, and I really like to support local business. Now they have creamy and chunky with honey. I am so in heaven, peanut butterwise.Rod Sprague wrote:You could seek medical attention before you have symptoms. Just a thought.Dale wrote:Oh great. Still: natural peanut butters will still be runny if slathered on sandwiches in the thicknesses one could do with impunity using the hydrogenated products, so you have to use much less, or use a plate (but who does that? I ask you ) and lick off the drippage, or do what I do: just eat it off of a spoon.
All of which isn't to suggest that I'm unscrewed. Salmonella happens. Especially these days, it seems for some reason.

I used to grind my own pb, and it was the best taste, but it was hugely hard on the grinder. I now by fresh ground at the bulk food store, where they also have several nut butters such as almond and cashew (gesundheit!). At pennies per pound, pb is still a much better deal than the nut butters, and I don't find their taste worth the extra cost.

Oooops. Time to wake up and smell the commercial mayhem. Hydrogenated peanut butter, with or without salmonella, is hard on human bodies. Cheap...yes. Conveniently spreadable...yes. Peanut flavored...yes. Cute names and TV presentations...yes.
