By playing low whistles exclusively, I've inadvertantly sidestepped the unceasing Generation Quagmire. Therefore, in clear conscience I cast my vote for Blissful Ignorance.
PS I LOVE to watch the food-fight from a respectful distance, however...as one can learn alot about whistling, whistles, ITM Orthodoxy, point and counterpoint, warfare, and WHAT-ALL! Good Stuff!

Buy 'em, tweak 'em, play 'em.

Tell us something.: I used to be a regular then I took up the bassoon. Bassoons don't have a lot of chiff. Not really, I have always been a drummer, and my C&F years were when I was a little tired of the drums. Now I'm back playing drums. I mist the C&F years, though.

I would have checked: 'I believe the people who say that there are less unplayable ones than popular myth holds, but I have yet to find one that I love, (though I did have an Oak which I adored until it broke). '

I'm betting that one would have gotten only the one vote.

darnit! I fell into the majority! "some good, some bad" I have 3 Gens, 1 self tweaked Gen fipple, and 2 Gens of a different name(a Mel Bay, and James Galway). The 3 are nickel...Eb, F, and G. The F and G are very similar and great players..while the Eb is not so good(I'll tweak it eventually). The Mel and the James are so-so...but not terrible like some people feel about Gens...I still think there's hope for them( the whistles not the people). My tweaked Gen fipple gets to sit on a Feadog body and it's one of my 2 favorite Sop. D's.(out of over a dozen!)

I have a wide range of them. Just a few of them include a self tweaked D which is my favorite soprano whistle, a terribly eratic Eb which is one of the worst I've ever played, and a Bb that is amazing right off the shelf without ever being tweaked. They come in all forms.

I've not played as many as he has, but my opinion of Generations is very similar to Mr. Laban's. I've ended up selling all of my expensive whistles in favor of cheapies, in fact. Go fig.

I actually did the same thing, except for a Sindt I dropped that I don't think anyone would buy. I guess I'm not the only guy from the other side of the proverbial tracks.

Well, I kept a Sindt A because I needed an A whistle. But that's really the only whistle I kept that cost me over $10.

I've got a D that is way off
A Bb that can be played into tune if you try hard
An Eb that is great
A brass C that is one of my favorites

All of the above are untweaked and as is, the last two I bought in the late seventies or early eighties I think.

They sound nice, but I hate how the head is glued on. That "feature" is completely un-necessary. I usually buy other brands simply because they don't have their heads glued on.

I couldn't vote either. One of the choices needs to be:

"I only play them if they have been tweaked."
How do you prepare for the end of the world?

What the heck. I've never met a Generation I didn't like, so that's how I'll vote.
