Tell us something.: irish music, specifically slow airs played on different whistle keys, also lower keyed flutes like Bb, but only from modern makers who have managed to get the hole spacing a little closer. And finally learning some fiddle tunes, mainly slow airs again so that the whole family don't go mad with the sound of a cat being strangled.

F - FLUTE RECOMENDATIONS

Post by sponge »

Evening all, or afternoon

I am just considering a flute in F , ideally made of delrin or similar,

any help would be appreciated on what might be good for a begginer

I like the key of F, and it would give me a chance to ease myself into a

shorter finger stretch.

cheers sponge :D :D

The copley f, while not delrin, is an absolute winner.

M+E makes a delrin (well, isn't it really PVC? close enough). I'm sure it's lovely.

Tell us something.: I restore 19th century flutes, specializing in Rudall & Rose, and early American flutes. I occasionally make new flutes. Been at it for about 15 years.

Well, maybe you can check with Dave to see if he would make one out of Delrin for you. (I just want him to suffer, having to deal with delrin  )

Maybe she's recommending other keys. I have flutes in A and G but haven't seen any in U, R or H. I'm clearly out of the loop.

; y'all are FUNNY!

Another option is a bamboo F flute by Pat Olwell. Well-in-tune, low maintenance, really light, loads of fun to play, and under $200 USD if people don't lose their heads over them in auctions.

You'll have to watch ebay and the boards for one, but they turn up occasionally.

Good luck, and sorry I can't help with the U key.

I would think M&E would be your best bang for the buck in the F department, especially since you would prefer delrin.
Never played the F myself, but I am contemplating getting one, if you do, please tell me what you think.
