New delrin whistle

Post by ctilbury »

Hello all,

Sorry to bend everyone's ear like this, but I just have to tell someone! I just made my first whistle from Delrin! I had no idea that this stuff was so great! The whistle turned out better than I ever expected. It is black with brass ferules. It's beautiful and it sounds great! This is the best instrument I have ever held in my hand. I am so excited I could explode!
Happy Whistling!

Tell us something.: I caught the trad bug listening to Liam O'Flynn. Started on whistle, then moved to pipes. Tricky Basmatis, but I love 'em.

I hope the tour somehow makes its way to Australia and NZ :D

Sounds great! I'd like to see a picture as well. And, of course, a tour would be fun. I liked your aluminum whistle too.

Sorry guys, I have not forgotten about the pics. I am having a little trouble getting decent pics of the black-blacker-blackest midnight ebony delrin stuff. Anyone have any advise?
Happy Whistling!

I figured out why the pictures not very good. I was not using enough light. :)

Here are some links. Be warned that these images are a bit large, over 3M.

You can see the shape of the airway in this one:

Here it is posing with a half full Deschutes Porter so you can guage the size of it.

This shows the blade and the holes pretty well. Also note the brass tuning slide. The white specks are sand grains to keep it from rolling around on the chair seat.

Another shot of the airway and the underside of the beak.

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Hi, Chuck, how does the sound compare to your aluminum one on the recent (current?) tour? It really is beautiful.

Man - that's pretty...if you start a tour, I'll session test it for you. That's just about the prettiest whistle I've ever seen.
