Tell us something.: I've picked up the tinwhistle again after several years, and have recently purchased a Chieftain v5 from Kerry Whistles that I cannot wait to get (why can't we beam stuff yet, come on Captain Kirk, get me my Low D!)

Casino Royale was good, if you're into that kind of thing.

I'm considering Night at the Museum.

I am dying to see Eragon.

It opens on Friday, and my birthday is Saturday, so that's what my family is doing for me: Taking me to the movies.
I read the book (and the second in the trilogy, Eldest), and found it quite enjoyable. Of course, the movie can't come anywhere near the book, but the star of the movie is actually Saphira, the dragon.

Anything with a dragon is beyond cool.

I am also considering Night at the Museum. It looks like it has potential. That or Happy Feet.

Eragon looks like one long promo for the game. I can wait for the DVD on this one.

I'd rather be atop the foothills than beneath them.

I'll recommend Happy Feet. Saw it with the fam, and thought it was excellent. The music is what really makes it. They way they meld 40+ years worth of popular music into single songs is brilliant. You must decide in advance to get over the 'preachiness' that pervades the end of the movie, however. They can't seem to make a kids movie these days without trying to put in some message with an obvious agenda. (Though I agree with the point made, it was a little too preachy for me).

My younger sister wants me to go see that one with her, but I'm probably going to have to pass. I tried to read the book, and I just couldn't get through it...WAY too similar in a lot of respects to two other modern epic stories of higher calibur and quality (If I have to name them...well, I'll shut up instead...).
There are parts that feel practically plagiarized.

Was it Daniel Craig that threw you off? Just wondering, cause he strikes me as the kind of Bond you either love or hate.
Did you ever read Fleming's original novel?

I would have expected my 14 year old to feel the same way but after viewing a lengthy online trailer he concluded that it departed from the book in ways that perturbed him enough to dismiss it. I'd point out to him that trailers can be misleading but then if we go and he's disappointed I'll be culpable.

I agree with your child - there are discrepancies which may turn out to be distracting, and I'll also second Tyler's comments about the similarities (overwhelming though they are) between this story and another. However, I still thoroughly enjoyed the books, and I'm planning on enjoying - if not the presentation - the special effects, which do seem to just keep getting better year after year.

I've contemplated taking my family to the theaters this season. Nothing has jumped out at me that was worth seeing. I have lost much faith in the movie industry when I heard New Line dropped Peter Jackson from the Hobbit... :( :sniffle: :moreevil:

And I have heard that Happy Feet is just an animated " An Inconvenient Truth"....pass...

Not really, I didn't mind his Bond. I just thought the movie was ill-conceived and uninspired.

We're all waiting for that one too... may have to make it part of the family gifts... also waiting for the third book in the series.

I haven't seen it, but I have heard some good reviews for The Queen, with Helen Mirren.

One movie that sounds really good to me is The History Boys. Alan Bennett is such a great writer. I have read that it seems more like a play than a movie and I know some people don't care for that. Anyway, I hope it comes to Des Moines, but it probably won't.
