Pat Olwell Flutes

Post by primenumber321 »

Does anyone know if he is still taking new flute orders? All the contact info I could find online looked pretty old. I'd love to get in line for a flute. I'm sure it's a really, really, long line too. But well worth the wait. :P

The Olwell order list is legendary. You'll wait a very long time. I sent Patrick my Hawkes 8 key and $550. for him to make a new headjoint for it 2 1/2 years ago. So, don't hold your breath, but his son Aaron is helping him now so maybe things will improve. You could try calling them to ask about how to get on their waiting list, their phone is (434) 277-9215. They're at 1945 Crabtree Falls Hgwy, Massies Mill, VA 22954, or P.O. Box 117, Nellysford, VA 22958.

Unless you want keyes, the wait isn't that bad.

I agree with Bloomfield, if you're ordering a keyless flute the wait isn't outrageous. I think it took around 14 months for mine 2-3 years ago.

Now, if you want keys....

i called him a month or two ago. 10 months for a keyless, 6 years for a keyed.

Cool. Anyone knows how much he charges for a keyless flute with tuning slide and finished key blocks? It should be possible to get someone else to make the keys.
I would really like to know how much he charges.

Email him at the address posted above. Either he or one of his elves will send you a flyer with models, options, and prices.

And he's a nice guy to talk to and will happily answer your questions.

Olwell flute wait

Post by cocusflute »

About $1,450 for a keyless blackwood with silver rings and slide. Less for no slide and no rings. About 8-9 month wait.
$3,100 for the six-key with a five-six year wait.

Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

Pat told me seven years, and that was in 2001. So, unless anything's changed...

You can trade it in for your choice of a harp or an accordion (depends where you are heading).

!

Or a banjo. Gives a whole new meaning to the term "deliverance." ;-)
